Go Abaco Bahamas!
Custom Group dates in Februrary
This
trip starts in Marsh Harbor, the third largest city in the city in The
Bahamas. Here, you will find comfort in your waterfront accommodations
all within walking distance of restaurants, lodging, shops and outfitters.
Spend the next 4 days exploring outlying Cays, forests, unique rock formations,
blue holes, orchids, birds and Bahamian cuisine. Travel by sea kayak into
one of Abaco’s mangrove estuaries. Snorkel over a patch of coral
reef teaming with fish and another site over a blue hole.
You will also have an opportunity to explore unique limestone cave formations
at Abaco’s southern tip, called Hole in the Wall. To get there,
we will pass through Abaco National Park, where we’ll bird and sightsee
along the way. Pic nic
lunch will be provided at the base of the lighthouse. We’ll make
a special trip to visit the rare and endangered Bahama Parrot and seek
out other colorful West Indian bird specialties. The day will end with
an out island trip, where you can soak up Bahamian culture while strolling
the quaint streets of Hopetown.
The second portion of the trip will be on an out island Cay called, Green
Turtle, approximately
30 miles north of Marsh Harbor. The island settlement, known as New Plymouth,
is characterized by neatly kept historic homes, flower gardens, narrow
streets, and friendly people. Its history dates back to the founding of
Abaco and today is a popular port of call among cruisers and frequented
by nature lovers, snorkelers, and scuba divers alike. This quiet and relaxed
destination has fewer than 500 people who live on the island, making this
an ideal retreat for those who seek out places off the beaten path. We’ll
spend a day kayaking to the settlement where we will visit the historical
museum and Reef Relief’s marine education center. Lunch will be
at a unique New Plymouth
establishment, but before we return to our lodge we’ll visit the
sand flats in search of shorebirds. You will also have a chance to indulge
in snorkel trips and fresh caught seafood beach picnics. The Sea of Abaco
provides ideal foraging grounds for dolphin. A portion of our day will
be spent viewing commonly seen dolphin pods. If you are certified in Scuba,
you are welcome to select that option for the reef trips. Also for people
who have always dreamed of learning to Scuba, we can offer you a one day
Discover Scuba alternative.
