Bird Conservation~A Touch of Tropics in the Northwoods
April 21-24, May 14-17 & custom dates-see daytrips for other birding options

  Above - Chestnut-Sided Warbler

Join naturalists and ornithologists on a venture along the shores of northern Lake Huron and Lake Superior to witness the remarkable spring bird migration. Opportunities to view neotropical birds migrating from Central and South America are abundant. Our trip will begin along Lake Huron where research surveys have shown that the shoreline peninsulas are incredible stopover and refueling points for migrants. Here, we will observe birds in their breeding habitat. The trip will continue through grassland habitat and north into boreal forest.

The final destination will include exploring Tahquamenon Falls old-growth, riverine habitat and Whitefish Point along Lake Superior. This area is one of only a handful of unique spots in the United States where migrants meet in large numbers. During our visit to Whitefish Point Bird Observatory's annual Spring Fling Event we will learn about their ongoing waterfowl, passerine, and raptor research. This trip is designed for all birding levels. Be prepared to witness a beautiful display of spring wildflowers!!

The April trip includes activities planned by Whitefish Point Bird Observatory and contributions go to Michigan Audubon.
